Yuri Calvo from Brazil is the winner of the Student of the Year category of the WVA Global Veterinary Awards

Brussels, March 21 2024 – The World Veterinary Association (WVA) and Ceva Santé Animale (Ceva) are pleased to announce the winner of the Student of the Year category, in conjunction with the International Veterinary Students’ Association (IVSA) in the forthcoming WVA Global Veterinary Awards, as Yuri Victor Calvo, based in São Paulo, Brazil.

Yuri served as President of the IVSA between 2022-2023. He recently graduated from the School of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science of University of São Paulo (FMVZ-USP). Currently he is a PIBIC Scholarship Holder (Governmental Scientific Innovation Scholarships), conducting an undergraduate research project in the Small Animals’ Clinical Nutrition area.

He has participated in and led several programmes to develop youth leadership and empowerment encouraging young people to consider studying and working in the veterinary profession.

Yuri Victor Calvo is the fourth category winner to be announced in the run up to the Awards ceremony which will take place on the 17th of April during the 39th World Veterinary Association Congress (WVAC), in Cape Town, South Africa.

The winner of the remaining award for Veterinary Education will be announced in the run up to the WVAC.

One overall winner will be named as Veterinarian of the Year on stage during the ceremony.

Speaking on behalf of the IVSA the current President, Vanda Dučić’, said: “We are delighted by this Award, Yuri is very passionate about veterinary education, One Health and about supporting veterinary students from all over the World.”
